So much more than just a weed

Scientific name: Glechoma hederacea

Way of life:

This low-growing weed constantly sprouts new stolons under shrubs and on walls, always reaching for light. This way, the ground-ivy plant always spreads to new locations, and over the course of months, it grows thousands of blue flowers, which offer food to generations of bumblebees and mining bees.

Habitat:

Can be found in the undergrowth of shrubs all over the city, especially in the Vienna forest, in Prater, in Lobau, in parks, and in gardens

The aromatic ground-ivy is an important food source for young bumblebee colonies in the spring. If you promote the growth of ground-ivy in your garden, you will attract lots of bees.
